In modern industrial production, the vibratory feeder, as a critical piece of material conveying equipment, is playing an increasingly vital role. It can uniformly, at precise intervals, and continuously convey bulk or granular materials from the storage silo to the receiving unit, providing a solid foundation for the efficient operation of the entire production process. Today, let us take a closer look at the vibratory feeder.
The operating principle of a vibrating feeder is based on the action of a vibrator. A typical vibrating feeder consists primarily of a vibrator frame, a vibrating body, a vibrating motor, an exciter, springs, and other components. Taking an electromagnetic vibrating feeder as an example: the current flowing through the exciter’s electromagnetic coil undergoes single-phase half-wave rectification. During the positive half-cycle when current flows through the coil, a pulsed electromagnetic force arises between the armature and the iron core, causing the hopper to move backward while the main spring deforms, storing potential energy; during the negative half-cycle, no current flows through the coil, the electromagnetic force disappears, the main spring releases its stored energy, and the armature and iron core move in the opposite direction, causing the hopper to move forward. Thus, the feeder undergoes reciprocating vibration at a frequency of 3,000 cycles per minute, corresponding to the AC power supply frequency. Because the horizontal plane of the hopper forms an angle with the line of action of the exciting force, the material within the hopper moves continuously forward along a parabolic trajectory, thereby achieving the feeding function. For feeders driven by a vibrating motor, the motor drives an eccentric block to rotate, generating centrifugal force that causes the movable parts—such as the screening chamber and the vibrator—to undergo forced, continuous circular or approximately circular motion. As a result, the material follows the screening chamber in a continuous throwing motion across the inclined screening surface and is uniformly conveyed into the receiving opening.
Uniform and stable feeding: enables precise, uniform, timed, and continuous material conveying, effectively preventing the feeding system from stalling due to uneven feeding, thereby significantly extending the service life of the equipment. For example, in sand and gravel production lines, it ensures a continuous and uniform feed to the crusher, guaranteeing a smooth crushing process.
Easy and flexible adjustment: The feed rate can be adjusted via multiple methods—such as regulating the rectified voltage of the electromagnetic vibratory feeder to control the excitation force, or adjusting the eccentric weight of the vibratory motor to alter the excitation force—enabling real-time modification and control of the flow rate according to production requirements, with user-friendly operation.
Simple and reliable design: The overall structure is relatively straightforward, featuring a limited number of main components and few wear parts; this ensures stable and dependable operation, while making installation and maintenance straightforward – thereby reducing equipment maintenance costs and downtime for businesses.
The vibrating feeder has a wide range of applications: whether dealing with powder, granular, or bulk materials, it can be effectively utilized in various applications across numerous industries, including metallurgy, coal mining, mineral processing, building materials, chemical industry, and abrasives, where it is commonly employed in combined crushing and screening equipment.
Low operating costs: As a vibration source, the vibration motor features low noise levels and low power consumption, enabling it to effectively reduce a company’s production energy consumption and environmental noise pollution.
III. Application Domains: Indispensable across multiple industries
Mining Industry: During the ore mining and processing stages, a vibrating feeder can uniformly convey the extracted ore from the hopper to equipment such as crushers and other machinery for subsequent crushing, screening, and other operations, thereby enhancing mining efficiency.
Metallurgical industry: Used to transport metallic raw materials or semi-finished products from storage silos to smelting furnaces, rolling mills, and other equipment, ensuring the continuity and stability of the production process and guaranteeing the smooth progression of metallurgical production.
Building Materials Industry: In the production of building materials such as sand, gravel, and cement, this process ensures a continuous and uniform feed supply to equipment such as crushers and mills, while simultaneously performing coarse screening on the materials, thereby optimizing the production workflow and enhancing product quality.
Chemical industry: Enables precise transportation of various chemical raw materials, meeting the stringent requirements for quantitative and stable material supply in chemical production, thereby ensuring the smooth progression of chemical reactions.
Installation Guidelines: When a vibrating feeder is used for batching or quantitative feeding, it should be installed horizontally to ensure uniform and stable feeding and to prevent material spillage; for general continuous feeding applications, the feeder can be installed at an angle of 10° downward; for viscous materials or materials with high moisture content, the feeder can be installed at an angle of 15° downward. After installation, a 20 mm clearance should be maintained, the horizontal alignment must be preserved, and the suspension system should utilize flexible connections. Before conducting the empty trial run, all bolts must be tightened, particularly the anchor bolts for the vibrating motor; after continuous operation for 3–5 hours, the bolts should be tightened again.
Maintenance precautions: During operation, regularly check the vibration amplitude, current, and noise stability; lubricating oil should be added to the motor bearings every 2 months, and during high-temperature seasons, add lubricating oil once per month. Regularly check whether the lubricating oil level in the exciter is above the oil mark; replace the lubricating oil every 3–6 months; when replacing the oil, clean the oil tank and other components using clean gasoline or kerosene. Additionally, ensure proper equipment grounding and inspect the insulation of electrical wires to prevent electric leakage incidents.
The vibrating feeder, owing to its unique operating principle and outstanding performance characteristics, plays an indispensable role across a wide range of industrial sectors. With continuous technological advancements, it will be continually optimized and upgraded, consistently contributing to the efficient and stable operation of industrial production.
